The Department of Pediatrics

Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The program is a 10-week, hands on opportunity in which students work with investigators at Case Western Reserve University in the Department of Pediatrics.  The areas of research range greatly and include bench research in biochemistry, genetics and physiology, as well as behavioral research for students interested in child psychology.

Students accepted into the program are provided a stipend of $3000 for the 10 weeks.  While we can arrange housing in our student dormitories, we do not have funds to cover the housing and that would be the responsibility of the student.

It should be pointed out that the program is research based, and not clinical. Because we are a pediatric department, many students apply assuming they will get clinical exposure.  While such opportunities may exist at University Hospitals of Cleveland, our program is not involved with clinical work.

The applicants will be asked to provide an essay (1 page) on how the summer program would help them achieve their career goals, along with a copy of their transcript.  We also request one letter of recommendation, and a recommendation form is included.

The recommendation form is included with the application, but is also available separately, should you need it. Please access the links below for the application and/or the recommendation form.

Please note that the application deadline is February 25, 2010.  We understand that transcript requests and recommendations are sometimes delayed.  As long as the application is received by February 25, transcripts and recommendations can follow shortly thereafter.

Feel free to contact us with any questions.  We look forward to your application!
